There’s a fun new trend in Chinese digital marketing, which generates high user engagement and interaction: “Face Fusion.” This technology allows users to upload their own photos via an H5 page on WeChat, to create personalized images that they can collect and share on social media.
China Media Group and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics recently launched a “Winter Olympics Blind Box” H5 page. Here, users choose from a few settings, then either take a photo or upload one from their camera roll, and the program creates an Olympic-themed poster.
With a huge range of randomly generated poster possibilities, users are encouraged to keep interacting with the program in order to collect more personalized images, which they can share on social media. This then encourages more users to take part.
Months before the launch of China Media Group’s Winter Olympics blind box, Dragon Trail was already using the same face fusion technology to allow travel agents to create digital photo albums as part of our B2B campaign with Experience AlUla.
As you can see from the Olympics-themed images above and those from the AlUla face fusion photo album below, the digitally generated images look very different depending on the user.
Especially with face fusion technology being showcased by China’s leading media group for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, this kind of H5 campaign is a new Chinese digital marketing trend that’s only going to grow in popularity.
